Last Day of School! Happy or Sad??!!

I dropped this cute little Asian bundle off for her last day of 3 year old preschool today. It's a happy-sad kind of day. The time is flying by!! Next year she will be in 'big-girl-school VPK' with phonics, some math and computer lab! They even begin Spanish! (that part just cracks me up...because we went from Chinese to English and now adding another when we just got this English part down pat) Anyway...I'm sad to say good-bye to these teachers who have been so patient and loving with all the VanLue P.C. and happy to see what the future holds! Yet another milestone in the books!! Oh yea...the rooster flashlight is her final show-n-tell. We have been letting her have that at night and boy...do we hear it clucking and crowing all night!!

Mostly We're....

...hunkering down and getting in a final push of school. This is Katie Mei's last week and the big girls...well...they'll be finishing up for a while:) In the mean time..here's some 'yet another pic of the little ones who always keep me laughing and smiling' photos from our trip to Downtown Disney. If you haven't had 'White-Puffy-Things' a.k.a. Beignets from Port Orleans then you haven't really lived.:) The mess after...the mommy doesn't like so much. ...But it is Oh! SO WORTH EVERY CRUMB!!!

Is Coveting Allowed?

I know we are not supposed to covet our neighbor's property...but what about your daughter's?? What if she lives in the same house?? Heh. You see Julie got this new whoop-dee-do Nikon camera...and this mommy wants it bad!! Man oh man does it take great pictures!! Here's a few from our recent beach day with DIL Mel's family and our own P.C.!! This was last week before we needed to start building an ark here in 'Sunny' Florida!:)

Glorious and Mighty

This was too cute not to post. There is nothing like hearing little voices worship our savior! Yesterday was the 3rd anniversary of Katie's gotcha day, and here she is with her nephew (who is the same age) singing a rousing rendition of a recent worship song. They are the best of buddies these days! It's amazing to think that she would be severely punished and persecuted for singing this in her country. We love you Katie and Cade!

Random...but True Story...

We live outside the city limits but definitely not in the country. With that established...we were paid a visit (or should I say my Mom was) by the Florida Wildlife Commission the other day. My mom lives across the street a little less than 1/4 mile away. Anyway...answering a knock on the door found us face to face with wildlife man himself. He had noticed the trash can (pic) and had come to tell us in person...."BEWARE of the Bear!" Those are bear teeth marks in the trash can says wildlife man. Yep. They are on the loose.:) Actually they have been spotted roaming the neighborhood...even in Mom Jo's yard... but in the last few days have gotten more aggressive looking for food. We were given all sorts of pamphlets and brochures telling "Do not feed bears" (DUHH!!!) and how to 'bear-proof' just about anything. We were warned to 'look around' before you get in your cars early in the morning...and don't forget..."There is a $500 fine for feeding bears in the state of Florida". The girls think this new turn of events is 'way cool' but the mommy thinks they need to stay inside:) Not what we were expecting to be doing this week:)

Wacky Hair Day...

It was "Wacky Hair Day" at Katie's school this week. It's hard to be 'wacky' when you have that sleek, straight, beautiful, jet-black Asian hair but we did our best! And...to represent the ultimate in wacky.....Miss Eloise is showing you how she wakes up every morning. We have tried everything with her platinum blond locks...and every day her mom gets this snarly rats nest to decipher each and every day. Love these girls...and they couldn't be more opposite!!:)

Encouraging Words For Moms...

Mother's Day marks the third anniversary of Katie Mei's Gotcha Day. It's hard to believe that much time has gone by!! Last month we celebrated Leni's 7th Gotcha...and since Kristin came to us at birth....her's is every year on her February birthday. We pretty much have had children in every season of life these last 7 years...as when we adopted Leni, we had one in diapers, a middle schooler, and a high schooler. Since then, two more littles have been added to our family...and a daughter in law AND a grandson. Whew! It sounds and has been overwhelming at times. Actually...to be honest...alot of the time. The laundry is NEVER done....food is consumed at rapid-fire pace, someone is always crying....someone is frequently in need of medical assistance (or thinks they are in need of..I never knew we would own part of the Barbie Band-aid company:))...and it's pretty darn exhausting. There are days when I ask myself...."Are we sure we are doing the right thing? Will I ever sleep again? Am I being a good mom or do they just see me going thru the motions? Am I impacting their lives the way God intended? Are they getting the school they need? And an even heavier weight...of how do I stretch myself as a mom to meet everyone's needs? This Mom cannot be stretched any further!!", was my cry many nights. One of our sweeties battles severe asthma and many nights thru the years we've spent many 'all-nighters' in which the mommy (me) holds sick child in upright position all night dispensing breathing meds just so princess can take the smallest breath. We watched the sunrise...only to have the mommy (me) turn around and begin her day with the others just waking from a 'restful' nights sleep. The vision we've had as parents has remained intact but the reality of the day to day is wearing to our frail human frames. Motherhood is hard. No one ever promised an easy road and it's easy to allow thoughts of self-pity to enter one's thoughts. For me, the battle is even harder when fatigue is a factor. HOWEVER....this past week, I've been revisiting some of my favorite memories...and why we do what we do in the first place. I was re-reading one of my earthly hero's writings and came across this...Not only is God's grace sufficient for every child and season....His mercies are new every single morning. He had a plan for each of our children before I was even in the picture. That's comforting and encouraging as the daily grind can be...well...grinding. God freshly reminded me that He understands. He is right here with me in each of those moments of 'Now what?' Here's what I found this week that made every moment so worth it.....A gentle reminder that everything I do is for the Audience of One....and the privilege of being called 'Mommy' to those He has given me.

Ps. 45:1- My work is for a King.

What is your work? To help sick people or little people, or tiresome people? To cook and clean, to make and mend, to work in office or shop or factory? To do the hundreds of odds and ends that every day brings?
Does the whisper ever come to you, "What is the use?" If it does, let these words answer it. MY WORK IS FOR A KING.

For the quiet joy of duty,
Praise, praise I sing,
For the commonplace and lowly,
Set with pleasure high and holy,
In each unromantic thing,
Praise, praise to Thee, my King.

By Amy Carmichael....Whispers of His Power

Simple I know....but profound. There's so much that's commonplace in the life of a mom...but in those moments there is the pleasure of God. My heart is again filled with a quiet peace in the midst of life's craziness that He intends for us to have. I hope this blesses each of you....and Happy Mother's Day!! Enjoy those children He gave you!

Happy Anniversary Mel and Jason!

Our firstborn and his amazing wife celebrated their 4th anniversary today. We're so proud of them and how they are choosing to honor God with the way they live their life! In the wake of many challenges lately...they have risen to the occasion in their actions, words and deeds which as parents make us humble and grateful. We could not ask for more amazing children/adults than these!! Thank you Mel and Jay for living the gospel out loud to a world desperately in need!!

They got a night out tonight......and.....

Jay and Mel....ready to go...

This is who stayed at our house so they could go out...

The camera had issues here but tells the story of RACING around the table screaming and laughing....only the blond cried about it:)

The gang....after racing and ready to go out for ice cream. Remember...for the next 2 months, Katie and Cade are the same age. He's officially taller than she though....Look closely at Katie's face and you will see the glasses she drew on herself with ballpoint pen...under the instruction of a sister. Guess which one??!!

It's All About Me!

It's always a challenge to find projects all 3 ladies can do together accomodating all interests, skills and taking conflict resolution into account.:) Yesterday the girls made their own 'books' all about their fav subjects...themselves! It was funny to hear questions answered from their perspective. For example...What is your fav food? Katie's response was..."noodles wif soop 'round it". Something we've never had....but she does love noodles. What a funny kid! Kristin took HOURS to color everything perfectly and has extraordinary cutting skills. Leni's answers were all about animals. No suprise there. This mommy loves seeing personalities growing and letting them be individuals within a group!! They're awesome!

BTW...Katie is standing tall and proud in a chair because she's so very tiny and her head will barely fit in a camera frame with the others these days!!

We're done with the dentist!! All teeth are back in proper working order and this child never, ever moved or made a single peep!! Here's two photos....one from her last procedure and one at our celebratory Chik-fil-a par-tay!

This Little Light of Mine

This is the first video we took with Julie's new camera...Katie was our guinea pig :) Isn't she cute?
